Still Looking ! I bought a set of wooden grips on GunBroker which were supposed to be for 3rd Gen SAA. The were about 1/4 " too big all the way around except the top where it butts up to the frame. They were IMO just sucker fodder. Any suggestions. I really do not like the black plastic grips.... more »« less

The first pistol I ever bought with my own money is my 3rd Gen. Colt .44 special peacemaker with a 5 ½ barrel. I was about 17 and saved about a month and half worth of pay from my after school and weekend job at K-Mart and my uncle bought the firearm for me. I think I got a real good deal at about $450.

I’ve also shot a lot of other peacemakers and their clones and I think the .44 special is the most accurate for me. The fit and finish on my Colt is outstanding in every way. It is the most beautiful and elegant hand gun I’ve ever handled and shot.
It is a shame how much these pistols cost these days. I wish everyone in America had a reasonable chance to own one but I would never sell or trade mine. ... more »« less

I had a chance to fire a few rounds through a 45LC model a week ago. First, its a beautiful gun. The color case finish and the blueing of the other parts is just a joy to look at. The action is smooth and cylinder to frame fit is top notch. However, all of these things together do not warrant a $1300 price tag. You can buy a beretta Stampede or a Ruger NV that looks just as nice, is built just as good and costs 1/3 less. I know there are people out there that will happily fork over $1300 clams for the privilage of owning a SAA with the Colt stamp on it, so the prices will most likely never come down to something more reasonable...but one can always hope.... more »« less
